Gary, I read your blog just about daily and really enjoy it. I'm learning. Your photography is so good. The birds are cooperating for you. I'm getting a bit of an idea of how the place operates and since you had given me a preliminary description before you left, I think that helped too. I know you should be expecting a boat or plane in a week or so, right? Here---my hernia surgery is May 8 (ouch), Leif Enger [Peace Like a River] has a new one which I'll save for you, and Oroville is still Oroville. My condolences to you on the loss of your mother. Sorry. A new time for your dad. A good one for him, I hope. Keep up those good postings. John V.
Hi Gary! I just spent about an hour reading and enjoying your pictures - what a fascinating place to be (but I must admit I'm glad I'm not there!) I've sent the links to my brothers and sisters and to a man in our church who is an avid birdwatcher - they'll enjoy your posts too.
I checked in with your dad this morning and he seems to be doing well. Dave got business things well organized and Jan is helping too. Once Jan goes back home, I've told your dad I will help with whatever he needs and will stay in touch with him.
My formal education is in biology but I spent nearly all of my working life in other fields.I spent 10 years as a California State Park Ranger and nearly 25 years teaching elementary school. My wife of many years, my grown children, and my Dad have been supportive of my volunteer activities on the edge of the planet
