My intentions for Tern Island 2008 is to describe my thoughts and preparations for my 4 month stay on Tern Island. I also hope to post regularly once I arrive on the island on April 7th.

The Volunteer Hard at Work
These pictures were taken at East Island but many of my days look very much like this. Hunting for nests and then tipping birds carefully to see if there is nothing, an egg, or a chick. I usually have a clipboard but for this day I only had a pocket notebook.

Hi Gary, Glad you were able to see more of the atoll. That ocean is beautiful. I do understand the photos a little better now, seeing you and those birds that don't leave when you wander among them. I suppose you could just about poke your lens in their eye for a picture! The blog grows and grows. I do continue to visit your blog nearly daily just to see what is going on. I just don't have comments. All is well here. 104 or so yesterday, I heard, and hot again today, be glad you are not here. Best regards, John V.
My formal education is in biology but I spent nearly all of my working life in other fields.I spent 10 years as a California State Park Ranger and nearly 25 years teaching elementary school. My wife of many years, my grown children, and my Dad have been supportive of my volunteer activities on the edge of the planet
